Proof of Experience and The Truth About Photography
In order to inform potential customers about my services, it’s important to show them assorted wearables that I have designed, created, and crafted. I have been sewing in service since I was 15. I have run the range from simple alterations to Wearable Art. There should be albums of pictures. There should be wedding photos of the entire party that I dressed, the multitude of teens in prom gowns, gift shops with the artsy Dolls and Bears I made, not to mention bags, and clothes.
As I enthusiastically dove into my boxes of pictures in order to create this page….. I found few photos of past work. And I can place blame on a number of things. I typically had a Kodak 110 camera….. Do you remember these? And then you had to mail away the film and open the returned envelope with the suspense of wondering if you even achieved one good shot. My goodness, I am so thankful humankind has evolved past that.
I did find a small collection of photos, all taken in the same home studio at the time. I will put them up on this page as I have nothing else to offer by way of proof that I can sew. The other identified point for blame is work was very busy. When you finished a wedding party and the next one is already in their first fittings,…you don’t have an iota of leisure time. And you don’t worry about pictures as there’s always another wedding to photograph, another dress, so you think you have all the time in the world….. You don’t, We really should never think that way, anyways. I was bad.
But in this day and age, everything is different. We can all film and shoot photos on demand and we no longer wait for the mail. So as Hem&Stitch operates, I can enjoy the process of pictures with my digital Canon Rebel. (I love my Canon Rebel.) If the photography gets carried away andneeds a forum, maybe even a bit of blogging will happen,.
In the meantime, here are the few shots I found. I will continue to look around for more or maybe a few customers will send photos my way. Enjoy! And let me know if you have questions!

B………This is a Wool Sailor Jacket
I designed this with leg of Mutton sleeves, a pleated body for shape and the Sailor Collar is velveteen. The design is awesome and makes everyone look very shapely. It is lined and has a one button closure.

Hand Beaded Petal Sleeves in Satin
This gown was gorgesous on the customer. It really is too bad, I don’t have a proper photograph. The customer wanted a slim fitting satin gown with a beautiful sleeve treatment. The base sleeve is a simple short sleeve. We then cut out and stitched, (I forget how many flower petals) out of the satin. Every petal was then hand beaded.
This photograph also serves as proof of my poor photography skills at the time, (I’m awesome now!…lol) Looking at this photo now, I should have at least photographed the gown from the side so you could actually see the full sleeve….*sigh*…we all have learning curves.
My Sailor Dress Period
Clearly most of these Photos come from my Sailor Dress period. I created the original, then bumped it into a jacket, a blouse, and the version in the Red Plaid Challis, has a back hem that served as a train. You can see in the photo, the back hem hangs lower then the front. You can also see it had evolved to having a waistband with a front placket of buttons.

PRom Gown Season
I am most saddened by missing this category in photographs. Teenage girls were my absolute favorite. WHy? They knew what they wanted and weren’t afraid to say. My work with them was the most creative and collaborative. I loved working with them. Sadly all I have are these two simple dresses. We don’t have the Giant Pumpkin Gown, The Alien Gown, etc…. How I missed photographing them, I will berate myself forever. So instead we have these two conservative dresses to show.

Velveteen Collection
This is a Collection for a Mother and two Daughters. It includes two Girl dresses and a Jacket, Skirt and Handbag for Mom.
Circus Print Quilt
I made two of these similar, coordinating quilts with animal prints. THe theme of thier room was Circus. I used their colors and was able to capture a mix of the rooms theme and animal prints.

“Life is a journey, a walk in the woods where it is you that evolves under the warmth of the sun and within the arms of the trees that quietly sway and sing.”
